The swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly in West Bengal will begin on Wednesday at the Assembly building in Kolkata. The oath-taking process is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM and will continue over two days, during which 290 MLAs will be sworn in by Protem Speaker Tapas Roy.
Although the West Bengal Legislative Assembly has 294 seats, fresh elections are currently being conducted in the Falta constituency. In addition, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Am Janata Unnayan Party leader Humayun Kabir won from two constituencies each. As a result, 290 elected representatives will take oath during the scheduled programme on Wednesday and Thursday. Governor R. N. Ravi is scheduled to administer the oath to Tapas Roy as Protem Speaker on Tuesday evening at Lok Bhavan.
According to the Assembly schedule, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, members of the Council of Ministers, and winning candidates from North Bengal districts and Murshidabad will take oath during the first half of Wednesday. In the second half of the day, MLAs elected from Nadia, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas districts will be sworn in.
On Thursday, elected representatives from Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, and Jhargram will take oath during the first half of the day. In the second half, MLAs from West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, and Birbhum districts will complete the swearing-in process. In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the BJP won 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats. The Congress won two seats, the CPI(M) won one seat, the ISF won one seat, and the Am Janata Unnayan Party secured two seats.
