No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A major aviation emergency occurred early Sunday morning at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport when a Zurich-bound SWISS International Air Lines flight was forced to abort its takeoff. The Airbus A330, operating as flight LX147, had begun its takeoff roll at approximately 1:08 AM when the crew detected a failure in one of its engines, which subsequently triggered a fire alert. Following standard safety protocols, the pilots immediately rejected the takeoff and declared a full emergency to ensure the safety of the 232 passengers and crew members on board.
Upon halting the aircraft on the runway, the crew initiated an emergency evacuation to swiftly deplane everyone. Passengers and crew utilized the emergency slides to exit, while those unable to use the slides were assisted via stairs. During the hurried evacuation process, six passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Airline officials have confirmed that the crew members were unharmed and are receiving necessary support.
In response to the incident, SWISS has established a dedicated task force to manage the aftermath and is working closely with local authorities. The airline stated that its technical specialists are traveling to Delhi to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft, which is identified as registration HB-JHK. Meanwhile, airport operations remained largely unaffected by the incident, and the airline is actively coordinating rebooking options and hotel accommodations for all affected passengers to facilitate their onward travel.
