T20 World Cup: Bas de Leede’s unbeaten 72 steers Netherlands to 7-wicket win over Namibia

The Netherlands registered a convincing seven-wicket victory over Namibia in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 157, the Dutch side reached 159/3 in 18 overs to secure the win with 12 balls to spare.

Namibia, having been put into bat, posted a competitive total of 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton top-scored with 42, while Jan Frylinck added a useful 30, but Namibia lacked sufficient big partnerships to set a higher target against disciplined Dutch bowling. In response, the Netherlands’ chase was anchored by an outstanding unbeaten knock from Bas de Leede, who scored 72 runs off 48 balls with five fours and four sixes, dominating the innings. Colin Ackermann also made a valuable contribution with 32 runs to support the successful run pursuit.

The win marks a strong showing for the Dutch team, who bounced back after a narrow loss to Pakistan earlier in the tournament. It also underlines the growing competitiveness of Associate nations in the T20 World Cup as the Netherlands keep their hopes alive of progressing in the competition.
