Monsoon rains trigger landslide in Mirik; several tourists stranded
A horrifying case of institutional failure and brutal criminal depravity has sparked widespread public outrage across Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, where a 13-year-old girl was allegedly sold and repeatedly raped by more than 30 men over a span of five days. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the local police, the minor’s horrific ordeal began after she went missing from her home and was intercepted by a rickshaw puller, who subsequently sold her directly to a local hotel owner.
The teenage survivor was then systematically moved across multiple locations, with several other hotel operators and managers accused of actively participating in and facilitating her prolonged sexual exploitation. In her harrowing statement detailed in the FIR, the minor revealed that whenever she cried out in pain from the repeated assaults, she was forcibly intoxicated with alcohol to numb her senses. A localized criminal network allegedly made calculated attempts to completely suppress the entire episode from coming to light before the family and law enforcement intervened.
The revelation of the crime has caused massive public anger across the district, bringing sharp scrutiny onto the region's hospitality sector. Despite not being a mainstream tourist destination, Sri Ganganagar plays host to over 150 illegally operating hotels, creating pockets of unregulated administrative blind spots. In the wake of this tragedy, local citizens, civil rights groups, and political factions have launched massive demonstrations demanding the immediate and permanent closure of all such unauthorized lodging establishments.
