Tejashwi Yadav declares himself CM face of 'Mahagathbandhan', promises land & house

As political activity heats up ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has staked his claim to the Chief Minister’s post, promising a government focused on the poor and marginalized. The declaration comes amid tension within the Congress-RJD alliance, as the Congress has refused to accept Tejashwi as the alliance's face despite confirming they will contest elections together.

Speaking at the Musahar Bhuiyan Maharally cum Interaction Programme, Tejashwi passionately invoked social justice and secularism, calling them the "core ideologies" of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He said, “Our fight is to bring the person standing at the last rung of society into the mainstream.” He asserted that if elected as CM, his priority would be to ensure permanent homes for those living in slums and near drains.

Tejashwi also reflected on his father's legacy, Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying that no other Chief Minister had done more for the poor. “Lalu ji gave permanent houses in key areas of Patna to those who had no homes. He settled the poor; today’s government wants to uproot them,” he stated. His remarks drew cheers from the large gathering, many of whom belong to the marginalized Musahar community.

Reaffirming his stance, Tejashwi emphasized that the poor are the real masters of a democracy. “It’s because of you that people become MLAs and MPs. The government should work for you, not against you,” he said, stressing the need for land distribution and poverty eradication.

Taking direct aim at the BJP, Tejashwi said the party had ruled for 20 years, during which the rich got richer while the poor suffered. “They’ve done nothing to uplift the poor,” he claimed. His comments reflect a clear effort to mobilize backward and marginalized communities, which have long been RJD’s traditional voter base.
