Temperatures set to rise in Kolkata as winter chill eases

Kolkata is expected to witness mostly clear skies over the next 24 hours, with light fog or mist during the morning, according to the Meteorological Department. The local forecast indicates a maximum temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius and a minimum near 14 degrees Celsius, suggesting a mild shift in weather conditions.

No rainfall was recorded in the city between Sunday morning and Monday morning. During this period, the maximum temperature was logged at 25.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 13.4 degrees Celsius, also below the seasonal average. Humidity levels fluctuated between 93 percent and 48 percent.

Weather officials have indicated that night temperatures are likely to rise in the coming days. The minimum temperature is expected to increase by three to four degrees Celsius by Wednesday. From January 23, coinciding with Saraswati Puja, residents may experience a mild warmth during daytime hours.

The department further noted that after January 26, the intensity of cold conditions during night and early morning hours is likely to reduce significantly. This gradual change signals a transition toward more comfortable winter conditions across the region.

Meanwhile, dense fog warnings have been issued for several districts of South Bengal, including Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and West Bardhaman. Similar alerts are in place for parts of North Bengal till Wednesday. Officials have advised people to remain cautious due to reduced visibility, attributing the weather change to the influence of a western disturbance.
