Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Tension broke out in the Chaksahadat area of Jagatballavpur-1 block on Sunday evening during the inauguration of lighting at a local playground, after residents protested the lack of streetlights on nearby roads. The situation escalated into clashes, prompting the deployment of police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to restore order.
According to local accounts, residents expressed anger when Panchayat Samiti president Ranjan Kundu arrived to inaugurate the playground lights while surrounding roads in the area reportedly remain without street lighting. An argument soon turned into a scuffle, leading to allegations of attacks and counter-attacks among those present at the spot.
During the clash, one person sustained serious injuries and was initially admitted to Jagatballavpur Hospital before being shifted to a hospital in Kolkata for further treatment. Ranjan Kundu said the scuffle occurred among club members after the ceremony and maintained that the incident had no political connection.
