Tension in Baranagar as BJP alleges assault, stages police station gherao

Tension escalated in Baranagar after BJP workers and supporters staged a protest outside the local police station, alleging an attack on their members. The demonstration was led by BJP candidate Sajal Ghosh, who joined party workers in a sit-in demanding action.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday night in the Amtala area near Alam Bazar, following a political rally. BJP supporters alleged that soon after the rally concluded, they were attacked and physically assaulted by rival party workers. According to the claims, several individuals sustained injuries during the confrontation. The BJP further alleged that the incident occurred in the presence of police personnel, raising questions about security arrangements during campaign activities. Upon receiving information, Sajal Ghosh reached the spot, after which party workers gathered and moved towards the police station to lodge their protest.

The situation remained tense for some time before police officials intervened and assured appropriate action. Following these assurances, the protesters withdrew their demonstration. Authorities are expected to look into the allegations as part of maintaining law and order during the election period.
