Tension in Bhawanipur as TMC supporters protest poster removal by EC team

Tension gripped Bhawanipur after a team from the Election Commission of India arrived to remove political posters and banners from government property. The situation escalated when supporters of the Trinamool Congress surrounded the officials and staged a protest, alleging biased action.

According to local sources, the Election Commission team was conducting routine enforcement to clear unauthorised political materials ahead of the elections. However, TMC supporters objected, claiming that only their party’s posters were being targeted while those of the Bharatiya Janata Party remained untouched on trees and other public spaces. The protest quickly turned heated, with slogans raised against the officials and accusations of partiality. The demonstrators demanded equal enforcement of rules and questioned the neutrality of the poll body during the election period.

Police intervened to manage the situation and prevent further escalation. The incident adds to a series of political flashpoints emerging across the state as campaigning intensifies, with allegations of bias and selective enforcement becoming a recurring theme in the run-up to the polls.
