Tension in Cooch Behar as TMC alleges cash distribution by BJP’s Nisith Pramanik, protest erupts

Tension erupted in the Ghoksadanga tea garden area of Cooch Behar during the first phase of polling in the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, following allegations of cash distribution against BJP candidate Nisith Pramanik. The situation escalated around noon as Trinamool Congress workers gathered at the spot and began protesting against him.

According to allegations by the Trinamool Congress, Nisith Pramanik, the BJP candidate from Mathabhanga, was distributing money to voters in the area. TMC workers, led by their candidate Sablul Barman, surrounded him and staged a protest, leading to a tense standoff and heightened political confrontation in the locality.

Responding to the situation, Nisith Pramanik strongly reacted to the protesters, stating that he would not move as long as slogans continued. He said he would proceed calmly only after the protests stopped and warned that if slogans resumed, he would return, further intensifying the charged atmosphere at the site.
