In a dramatic encounter captured on video, a 56-year-old man, Lakshman Singh Negi, was attacked by a leopard in Uttarakhand's Jakhi village, Kirtinagar block, Devprayag assembly constituency. The video, which has gone viral, shows Negi severely injured with the leopard lying dead on the ground. According to a tweet by @AjitSinghRathi, Negi managed to fend off the already injured leopard by attacking it around its throat. The leopard, which had a wire stuck in its neck and a badly injured leg, died shortly after the confrontation. Kirtinagar Range Ranger Buddhi Prakash confirmed that the leopard had old wounds from an iron net, which likely contributed to its aggressive behavior.
The incident occurred while Negi was walking from his house in Jakhi to Khumkhu when the leopard, hiding in bushes along the old Jakhi road, launched its attack. Villagers promptly alerted the forest department and local MLA Vinod Kandhari. Upon arrival, the forest department found the leopard dead and conducted a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death, suspecting previous injuries from being trapped. "The leopard had old wounds on its neck from an iron net, which may have driven it to attack a human," confirmed Ranger Buddhi Prakash. The department is also preparing to provide compensation for Negi's injuries. This incident follows another recent leopard attack on a 17-year-old boy named Anurag in the same district.
