A police personnel was killed after terrorists opened fire on a police party near Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag town on Wednesday. The incident occurred at around 12:30 PM while the police team was deployed in the area as part of the heightened security protocol for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
The deceased officer, identified as Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, sustained critical gunshot wounds during the sudden assault. He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the shooting, joint security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched an intensive search operation to track down the assailants. Meanwhile, the Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack through a post on social media.
