Thai Navy claims India-bound ship from UAE attacked in Strait of Hormuz

A Thai-flagged cargo vessel bound for India came under attack near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, triggering rescue operations for its crew. The ship, identified as Mayuree Naree, had departed from Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates and was sailing towards Kandla Port in India when the incident occurred.

According to officials, the bulk carrier is owned by Thai shipping company Precious Shipping Pcl. The vessel was attacked while transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz shortly after leaving the UAE port, raising concerns over maritime security in the region.

Rescue teams managed to save 20 sailors from the ship, while three crew members remain missing. Authorities said efforts are currently underway to locate the missing sailors as search operations continue in the surrounding waters.

Images released following the incident showed thick black smoke rising from the vessel’s hull and superstructure, with life rafts floating nearby. Officials stated that the exact cause of the attack and those responsible are still under investigation.
