A couple residing in Uttarpara, Hooghly district, returned from a brief vacation to find their home burgled and valuables worth lakhs stolen. The victims, Nandadulal Bera and Priti Bera, residents of Charakdanga Road in Ward No. 13 of Uttarpara Municipality, had left their house unattended for a two-to-three-day trip to Puri.
Upon their return, the couple discovered that burglars had broken into their locked residence by cutting open the window grilles on the first floor. The perpetrators thoroughly ransacked the house, clearing out wardrobe safes and fleeing with ₹2 lakh in cash alongside approximately 30 grams of gold jewelry.
The victims have lodged a complaint with local administration requesting the urgent recovery of their stolen possessions and money. Local residents expressed concern over rising security issues in the area, pointing out that thefts frequently occur whenever homes are left unattended, alongside recent incidents such as the unrecovered theft of three toto batteries nearby.
