Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's potential expulsion from the Lok Sabha, asserting that it will work in Moitra's favor in the upcoming general election. Ms Banerjee addressed the issue on Thursday at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, ending her prior reluctance to discuss the allegations against Moitra.
She alleged that the BJP is trying to expel Mahua from Parliament and said, "Now they have driven out Mahua. That will make her more popular. What was said inside until now, will be said outside in the next three months."
The Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra, has been facing accusations of accepting bribes, including a significant amount in cash, from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising questions targeting the Modi government in Parliament. The looming threat of Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha has stirred political debates.
