Three people were killed and at least nine others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a truck on Friday morning near the Banwar Flyover Bridge on the Chhapra-Siwan Main Road (NH-531) in Bihar. The accident took place around 6 AM in the Daudpur-Ekma area of Saran district. Police and local residents launched rescue operations immediately after the collision and shifted the injured to the Ekma Community Health Centre for treatment.
According to police and local sources, the pickup van was carrying members of an orchestra party travelling from Rasulpur to Khaira when it collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction near the Banwar Flyover. The impact of the crash completely mangled the pickup van, which later fell into a roadside ditch. Reports also stated that two wedding guests travelling in the vehicle were among those affected in the accident.
Local residents reached the spot soon after the collision and began rescuing trapped passengers from the damaged vehicle. A police team from the 112 emergency service later arrived and assisted in shifting the injured to the hospital. After receiving primary treatment at the Ekma Community Health Centre, several critically injured persons were referred to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care. Both male and female orchestra artists were among the injured.
Police said the condition of several injured persons remained critical. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased victims. Legal formalities are being completed, and the bodies are being sent to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
