The Lank police have arrested three women for their involvement in a liquor smuggling ring operating between Banaras and Bihar. During the operation, the police seized 275 liters of alcohol, which was stored in 20 boxes. The women were allegedly transporting the alcohol to Bihar, where it is prohibited, with the intention of selling it at double the price. The police apprehended the women near Ashok Puram Colony while they were distributing liquor to customers.
Shivakant Mishra, In-charge of Lank Police Station, stated that the women were part of a larger trafficking operation that had been under investigation for some time. The group had initially used trains to transport the alcohol, but due to increased security checks, they switched to using buses and trucks. The traffickers relied on their gender to avoid suspicion, making it easier for them to smuggle the alcohol. The police have confirmed that the women were buying alcohol from Banaras and nearby districts, selling it to individuals traveling toward Bihar, and then transporting it for resale at higher prices.
The three arrested women, who are residents of Rohtas, Bihar, were found with ₹8,800 in cash. The police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network. Officers involved in the operation include Dharmendra Kumar (Ramna Chowki In-charge), along with Head Constable Ashish Choubey, Constable Neeraj Rai, and Female Constables Roopam Pandey and Deepika. The police are now focused on dismantling the smuggling operation and preventing further illegal activities.
