Ties with India at lowest in 30 years due to Trump, says US Congressman

Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna stated that the US-India relationship has plummeted to its lowest point in three decades due to President Donald Trump's foreign policy choices. Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit in Washington, the Democratic lawmaker from California accused the US President of systematically eroding global trust and straining crucial bilateral ties. Khanna specifically argued that the administration's aggressive posture toward Iran had a destructive ripple effect, directly inflating gas prices in India and damaging Washington's standing with international partners.

Beyond West Asian geopolitics, Khanna heavily criticized the administration's current immigration framework and international student visa restrictions, arguing that they severely undermine America's innovation ecosystem. He noted that the ongoing political rhetoric surrounding immigrants directly contradicts the country's technological ambitions, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence which rely heavily on global researchers. To illustrate the impact on diplomacy, Khanna recalled a recent trip to China where an Indian diplomat reportedly expressed that a generation of bilateral trust had been lost under the current American leadership.

The California Congressman accused President Trump of abandoning a traditional value-driven moral vision in favor of a coercive foreign policy characterized by a "might makes right" philosophy. Questioning the stability of strategic alliances under the current executive office, Khanna described Trump as a "lame duck" leader whose global policies threaten multiple nations. Looking ahead to the domestic political calendar, the presumptive 2028 Democratic presidential hopeful expressed firm confidence that his party would secure decisive victories in both the upcoming US midterm elections and the next presidential race.
