"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
The fear of tiger attacks has once again resurfaced in the Sundarbans. On Monday evening, a fisherman was dragged away by a tiger while fishing near Chamta forest. The missing fisherman has been identified as Chiranjit Mandal, a resident of Kalidaspur in Gosaba.
According to family sources, Chiranjit had gone to catch fish on 31 August along with two companions in the Sundarban Coastal Police Station area. While they were fishing on Monday evening, a tiger suddenly pounced on their boat and caught Chiranjit in its jaws before dragging him into the dense forest.
The other two fishermen tried to chase the tiger while making noise, but there was no trace of Chiranjit. Following the incident, both the Forest Department and Sundarban Coastal Police were informed.
Chief Forest Officer of South 24 Parganas, Nisha Goswami, confirmed that a search operation is underway inside the forest to locate the missing fisherman.
