Tilted 5-story building behind Acropolis Mall poses safety threat, residents evacuate

A five-story residential building located behind the Acropolis Mall in Kasba Rajdanga has been reported to be tilting, raising significant concerns about its structural integrity. According to residents, the building has been gradually shifting over time. The height difference between the right and left sides of the building is substantial. On the right side, the building stands nearly 11 feet above ground, while on the left side, it is about 6 feet high, indicating an uneven settling of the structure.

In response to the growing safety concerns, some residents have evacuated their flats and sought alternative accommodation, while others remain in their apartments despite the apparent risks. The tilt has led to fears that the building may be at risk of further damage or collapse. Residents have reported the issue to local authorities, including the municipality and the area’s councillor, but there has been no immediate visible action taken to resolve the matter.

Lipika Manna, the TMC councillor for Ward 107, has acknowledged the residents’ concerns and stated that she will personally investigate the situation. She confirmed that she would assess the building's condition and ensure that appropriate steps are taken to address the issue and secure the safety of the residents. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the tilt and whether any corrective measures are required.
