TMC accuses BJP of electoral roll manipulation, files complaint with EC over fake voters

A five-member delegation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission, alleging manipulation of the electoral roll in West Bengal. The party claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is colluding with the National Election Commission to include voters from other states in the state's voter list ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The TMC delegation, consisting of senior leaders Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Rithobrata Banerjee, urged the Election Commission to investigate the matter thoroughly.

During the meeting, the TMC leaders specifically demanded that online voter registration applications require in-person verification to prevent fake entries. Firhad Hakim, after the meeting, reiterated the party’s stance, emphasizing that this process would help safeguard the integrity of the voter list. The TMC has been actively reviewing the voter rolls, with party leaders conducting a door-to-door verification process in various districts of West Bengal.

In response to the TMC's complaint, the BJP has denied any involvement in voter list manipulation, stating that the allegations are baseless. The BJP accused the TMC of allowing infiltrators to be added to the voter rolls. Despite the Election Commission's dismissal of the claims, the TMC has expressed its determination to continue pressing the issue. The party is expected to engage further with the Election Commission as part of its efforts to ensure a clean voter list for the upcoming elections.
