Tensions escalated in Haldia after the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, as a local office of the All India Trinamool Congress was allegedly vandalised late on Wednesday night. The incident took place in Ward No. 13 under the Haldia Municipality area, shortly after polling concluded, triggering fresh political confrontation in the region.
According to local accounts, party workers discovered the damage on Thursday morning, finding furniture broken, banners and flex materials torn, and window panes shattered inside the office. The Trinamool Congress has accused supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party of carrying out the attack under the cover of darkness, claiming it was linked to reactions over exit poll trends.
Local Trinamool leaders alleged that the vandalism followed projections indicating a strong performance by the BJP, suggesting it emboldened rival supporters. A formal complaint has been lodged with the police, who have since visited the site and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The BJP has categorically denied any involvement, instead attributing the vandalism to internal factional disputes within the Trinamool Congress. Meanwhile, similar reports of post-poll violence have emerged from other parts of the state, adding to concerns over law and order as authorities continue to probe the incidents.
