TMC alleges BJP’s Nitin Nabin used CRPF vehicle for campaigning, questions Election Commission

A fresh political controversy has emerged ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accusing BJP national president Nitin Nabin of using a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle for election campaigning. The allegation surfaced after the ruling party shared a video on social media, claiming it shows Nabin boarding a CRPF vehicle during a campaign event.

According to the TMC, the video depicts a BJP rally in progress where Nitin Nabin is seen interacting with party workers before entering a CRPF vehicle. The party alleged that central forces deployed for election duty are being misused for political campaigning, raising serious questions about neutrality during the electoral process.

In its response, the TMC launched a sharp attack on both the BJP and the Election Commission, accusing the poll body of failing to act on alleged violations. The party claimed that central forces are expected to remain impartial to ensure free and fair elections, but alleged that such incidents indicate bias and misuse of official machinery.

The TMC further alleged that central forces in the state are functioning under the influence of the Union Home Ministry and are indirectly aiding the BJP’s campaign efforts. It also criticised the Election Commission for allegedly being stricter with the ruling party while overlooking actions by the opposition.

The controversy comes at a crucial time as campaigning intensifies ahead of polling. The allegations have added to the already charged political atmosphere, with questions being raised over the conduct of security forces and the role of authorities in maintaining electoral neutrality.
