Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A Trinamool Congress councillor from Konnagar in Hooghly district has alleged that he was threatened with death by miscreants who came to his residence late Saturday night. The councillor, Bishwarup Chakraborty of Ward No. 17, has lodged a formal complaint with the Uttarpara police station, prompting an investigation.
According to Chakraborty, a group of men arrived outside his house on Saturday night and threatened to kill him and carry out a bomb attack. He was not present at home at the time, but his family members witnessed the incident and immediately informed him over the phone.
The councillor said he later reviewed CCTV footage installed near his house and claimed that the suspects arrived in a red-coloured car, issued threats, and left shortly thereafter. He stated that he was able to identify some of the individuals seen in the footage.
Chakraborty has alleged that the incident may be linked to Divyendu Bhattacharya, described as a close associate of a Trinamool youth leader. He also claimed that this was not the first time his life had been under threat, alleging earlier attempts to attack him.
Denying the allegations, Divyendu Bhattacharya said the claims were completely false. He accused the councillor of having links with the BJP while posing as a Trinamool member and said he was at a hospital in Serampore at the time of the alleged incident. The BJP, meanwhile, has criticised the Trinamool Congress over the matter as police continue their probe.
