A Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor from Pujali Municipality has been arrested by the NSCBI Airport Police after failing to provide legal documentation for ammunition found in his luggage. The accused, Amirul Sekh Islam, who represents Ward No. 14, was intercepted by CISF personnel during a security screening on September 21, 2025. While preparing to board an Indigo flight (6E 5227), scanners detected an empty magazine along with six live 7.65 mm rounds tucked away in his baggage.
At the time of the detection, Islam claimed he held a valid license for the items but requested additional time to produce the physical documents. Recognizing his status as a public representative from the Budge Budge Assembly and Diamond Harbour Parliamentary constituency, authorities granted him a seven-day grace period to submit the necessary paperwork. Despite giving a written declaration promising to comply, the councillor failed to present any valid authorization within the stipulated timeframe.
Consequently, a formal complaint was lodged by SI Gopal Shaw of the CISF, leading to the registration of Case No. 72/2025 under Section 25(i)(a) of the Arms Act. Since the councillor was found in possession of live ammunition without any legal standing, the police moved forward with his arrest yesterday.
