Milan Sardar, Trinamool Congress Councilor of Ward No. 2 of Barasat Municipality, has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman from Tripura. The businessman was abducted at gunpoint from a parking lot in Kharda earlier this month, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore 25 lakh.
The incident occurred on September 2, when the businessman, who had come to visit an acquaintance in Kharda, was forced into a vehicle by the abductors. He was then held captive in a residential flat in Barasat. Initially, Kharda police launched an investigation into the case, but it was soon handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A breakthrough came after seven individuals linked to the crime were arrested. Investigators later identified Milan Sardar, the Trinamool councilor, as the mastermind behind the kidnapping based on information gathered from the detained suspects. Sardar had reportedly left the area after the incident but returned on the night of September 19, when he was apprehended by CID officers.
The businessman was eventually rescued by authorities, though he was found in an injured state. The arrest of the councilor has further intensified the investigation, with law enforcement agencies now looking into the broader implications of the case and Sardar's alleged involvement.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the involvement of political figures in criminal activities. The police investigation continues, and more details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
