TMC cracks down on indiscipline, over 50 MLAs face action for skipping Assembly despite whip

The Trinamool Congress is strict about maintaining discipline within its council system. Those violating the party whip have been ordered to appear before the committee. This decision was taken by Trinamool's Parliamentary Discipline Committee. Lawmakers who were absent from the session are being asked for an explanation.

The meeting regarding this matter will take place at the end of this week. Legislators will have to appear before the disciplinary committee in person. According to party sources, the number of such MLAs is over 50. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay attended the meeting on Monday. Generally, three registers are signed in the Assembly. Ministers sign two books, while legislators sign another. Currently, all three registers are under scrutiny.

Trinamool's Assembly meeting today is focused on discussing the total number of absent legislators who failed to attend despite the issuance of the party whip. The party considers this behavior completely irresponsible. Whips are being issued, yet certain legislators continue to remain absent from the Assembly sessions regularly. According to party sources, some lawmakers have made this a habit. Therefore, the party wants to take strict action this time.

The disciplinary committee is proceeding in the same manner as it did in the case of Humayun Kabir's controversial remarks. In other words, just as Humayun had to appear in person, a list of some legislators is being prepared in the Assembly, and they too will have to be present personally. It is noteworthy that Trinamool had issued a whip for the second phase of the Assembly's budget session on March 19 and 20, requiring legislators to be present.

However, on Wednesday, March 19, when Mamata Banerjee was present, around 215 legislators were absent, while on Thursday, March 20, only about 90 Trinamool MLAs were present in the session hall. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay and Trinamool's chief coordinator in the Assembly, Nirmal Ghosh, are working on identifying the absent legislators.
