TMC distances itself from MP Saugata Roy after he mocks Operation Sindoor, questions India-Pakistan ceasefire

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has publicly disassociated itself from party MP Saugata Roy's recent remarks on Operation Sindoor, calling them his personal views. In an official statement released on its X handle, the party stated, “We wish to state unequivocally that the remarks made by MP Saugata Roy in no way represent the opinion of the party.” This clarification came after Roy’s repeated public comments questioning the credibility and outcome of the India-Pakistan conflict under Operation Sindoor.

Saugata Roy had stated that “the way the India-Pakistan conflict ended is shameful for India” and that “India should not have agreed to Trump’s words.” He further added that “India has not succeeded in teaching Pakistan a lesson” and referred to the Operation Sindoor narrative as “auntie-level sentimentality—cheap emotionalism.” His comments were at odds with other party MPs, who had praised the operation as a symbol of India's strength and strategic success.

Roy also questioned the very nature of the military engagement, claiming, “There was no war at all. The whole thing is laughable. A few drones hovered around. A couple of missiles landed here and there.” These statements drew sharp reactions, particularly as they contradicted the tone adopted by the political establishment and defense voices who described the operation as a significant move in India's security response.

Following Roy’s remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched protests targeting the TMC. Demonstrations were held in areas like Murlidhar Sen Lane, where BJP workers accused TMC of undermining the armed forces. In light of the growing political response, the TMC reiterated its stand, distancing itself from Roy’s statements and affirming that they do not reflect the party’s position on the matter.
