TMC forms committee to identify ‘fake’ voters, gears up for statewide protest from Saturday

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified efforts to identify alleged ‘fake’ voters in West Bengal, forming a state-level core committee under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s directive. The committee, which includes TMC’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and other senior leaders, held a key meeting today at Trinamool Bhavan, chaired by state president Subrata Bakshi. Leaders were tasked with assessing district-wise electoral discrepancies, and the party announced a large-scale agitation starting Saturday to address the issue.

Each core committee leader has been assigned responsibility for three districts to monitor and verify voter lists. Birbhum is an exception, as no representative from the district is part of the state-level committee. Instead, the entire Birbhum district core committee has been given the responsibility to scrutinize voter lists locally. The meeting also reviewed progress made in the past week and collected district-specific reports on voter irregularities. Sources indicate that the committee will continue monitoring voter lists and gathering data.

TMC has not disclosed further details on how the verification process will be conducted but has emphasized a strict approach to identifying discrepancies. The upcoming agitation is expected to focus on raising awareness about electoral fraud and pushing for corrective measures in voter lists. The party’s top leadership will continue reviewing reports from all districts, with further meetings expected in the coming days.
