With Shahid Diwas approaching, the Trinamool Congress has intensified preparations for its annual 21 July rally. This year, the party is placing heavy emphasis on social media, making it the central pillar of its campaign strategy.
On Saturday, the party updated the cover photo of its official ‘X’ handle, featuring Mamata Banerjee prominently alongside a backdrop from the historic 1993 rally—a moment TMC considers foundational to its identity. The phrase ‘Dharmatala Chalo’ is boldly displayed, calling supporters to gather in central Kolkata.
The Shahid Diwas rally commemorates the police firing on Youth Congress workers in 1993, a movement led by Mamata Banerjee that eventually laid the groundwork for the formation of TMC. The party aims to use this year's rally as both a tribute and a show of political strength ahead of the upcoming elections.
Party leaders have indicated that online outreach will complement ground mobilisation, with district-level workers already distributing digital creatives and rally calls across platforms.
