South Calcutta Law College reopens under strict rules after alleged gangrape case
The Trinamool Congress has begun large-scale preparations for its annual Shahid Diwas rally, scheduled for July 21 at Dharmatala in Kolkata. This rally commemorates the 1993 incident when several party youth workers were killed in police firing during a protest. Every year, the party marks the date with a mass gathering in Kolkata, addressed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.
This year, the party leadership has issued mobilisation targets to all districts across West Bengal. Local units have been directed to bring maximum numbers of supporters to the rally. In Malda district, preparations have begun in Ward 15 of English Bazar Municipality, specifically in the Mirchak area. On Sunday, party workers under the leadership of local TMC functionary Sabiul Sheikh, also known as ‘Sabu’, began wall-writing campaigns supporting the upcoming rally.
According to party sources, responsibilities have been distributed at block and panchayat levels to ensure effective mobilisation. Local leaders are organising meetings, putting up posters, and distributing flags to raise awareness and encourage participation. The party has also started setting up stages and planning logistics for safe and smooth movement of people towards Kolkata for the rally.
Statewide, similar activities such as padyatras, wall campaigns, and public meetings are being organised in the lead-up to July 21. Trinamool Congress is aiming for large turnout across all districts. Shahid Diwas has become one of the party’s major annual events, and preparations are ongoing in multiple regions to ensure wide participation.
