The ruling party of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress, has made serious allegations against its state police in the by-election being held in Sagardighi of Murshidabad. The party workers have gheraoed the policemen deployed on election duty and have warned of consequences.
The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the police have helped Bayron Biswas, the joint candidate of the CPI(M)-Congress. Party workers have alleged that when Trinamool candidate Devashish Banerjee was going to Hussainpur Primary School, he was stopped by the police. He was then stopped by central forces personnel and finally, after the intervention of the presiding officer, he was able to enter the polling station.
According to party workers, the police and central forces have been obstructing the Trinamool Congress, which has resulted in protests by surrounding police personnel near Haji Javed Ali Vidyapeeth near polling station number 54.
The Trinamool Congress workers have demanded an explanation from the police as to why they have been obstructing their candidate and helping the opposition.
