Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien was suspended by the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday for ‘unruly behaviour’.
The two had a heated exchange right before the motion to suspend O’Brien was moved by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been adjourned till noon today.
Speaking at the BJP Parliamentary meeting ahead of the no confidence motion in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the motion moved by the INDIA bloc is only a programme for them, ‘but for us it’s an opportunity’. The PM also said that the ruling NDA’s slogan of keeping India free of corruption and dynastic politics remained the same, and that the Opposition alliance is plagued by mutual distrust.
The stage is set for a heated debate on the motion, which is expected to continue till Thursday (August 10), when is expected to give his reply. The debate will last for a total of 16 hours, and will have 15 speakers. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi will open the debate and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey will be the first speaker from the ruling party’s side
Meanwhile, leaders of the Opposition bloc INDIA are likely to raise the issue of the expunction and subsequent restoration of Dubey’s remarks today in the Lok Sabha. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will raise the issue in the House, according to sources. Congress MPs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi, Manickam Tagore & Kodikunnil Suresh met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and demanded that the remarks made by Dubey be expunged, and asked how they were restored after being expunged.
