BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A Trinamool Congress leader was found dead in Goghat area of Hooghly district on Sunday morning, triggering political tension in the region. The deceased, identified as Sahadev Bag, was a resident of the Kota area under Nakunda Panchayat. Police recovered the body from a drain behind a Trinamool Congress party office, and a hammer-like weapon was found near the spot.
According to family members, Sahadev Bag had gone out on Saturday evening and did not return home. On Sunday morning, local residents discovered his bloodstained body lying near the drainage canal. Police and local sources said multiple injury marks were found on the body, and the face and forehead appeared severely damaged. Police later recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The victim’s family accused BJP workers of abducting and murdering Sahadev Bag. His wife, China Bag, who is a Trinamool Congress panchayat member, alleged that BJP supporters had been threatening him since the Assembly election results were declared. Their daughter, Agomoni Bag, also alleged that the threats increased after the Trinamool Congress lost the election. Local Trinamool leader Shashank Dhak claimed party workers searched for Sahadev after he went missing and later identified the body recovered near the party office.
The BJP denied all allegations related to the incident and claimed the murder was linked to internal rivalry within the Trinamool Congress. Local BJP leader Dolon Das stated that the party did not believe in violence and said police should identify and punish those responsible after a proper investigation. A large police force was deployed in the area following the incident, and an investigation into the murder is currently underway.
