Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Madan Mitra was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Monday after falling ill. According to hospital and political sources, the senior All India Trinamool Congress leader was admitted due to urinary complications linked to a urinary tract infection. He is currently undergoing treatment and remains under medical observation.
Doctors attending to Madan Mitra stated that his condition is stable at present. Hospital sources indicated that he would not be discharged immediately and would continue to remain under observation for further monitoring. According to preliminary information, if his condition remains stable, he may be discharged on May 13, although no official confirmation regarding his release has yet been issued.
Madan Mitra was recently elected from the Kamarhati Assembly constituency in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. During the election campaign, he remained in public focus because of his campaign style and regular interactions with residents during outreach programmes across the constituency.
Following his election victory, Madan Mitra was also seen interacting with BJP MLA Sajal Ghosh from Baranagar. While the Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats in the Assembly elections, Madan Mitra retained the Kamarhati seat as a party candidate. News of his hospitalisation triggered concern among party workers and supporters after details of his illness emerged on Monday night.
