TMC MLA Asit Majumdar cracks down on illegal water connections in Chuchura, 15 lines cut

Trinamool Congress MLA Asit Majumdar led an operation to remove illegal water connections in the Rabindranagar-1 Colony area of Kodalia-1 Gram Panchayat, Chuchura. The operation was conducted with the assistance of local police, Public Health Engineering (PHE) department engineers, and staff. Majumdar personally oversaw the cutting of 15 unauthorized water connections, which were reportedly being used to draw water illegally from the main supply lines, disrupting the regular water distribution in the area.

Residents had previously lodged complaints regarding the theft and misuse of water, with particular concerns about illegal connections being made to bypass the official water supply system. These illegal connections were not only contributing to water wastage but also causing significant shortages for other households. Multiple unauthorized connections were found in some homes, where residents had taken more than one connection, as well as in business establishments. These practices were depriving others in the locality from receiving adequate water.

Majumdar’s intervention was aimed at stopping the illegal water tapping that had become a common issue in the area. The MLA made it clear that anyone continuing to engage in unauthorized water usage would face legal action. "Action will be taken against those who continue to exploit the water supply system illegally," Majumdar stated during the operation, emphasizing that strict measures would be implemented to prevent further misuse.

This operation is part of a broader effort to address water distribution problems in the region. The West Bengal government, particularly Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had previously expressed concern over the inefficiency of the state’s water supply system. Banerjee had highlighted issues related to illegal connections and water mismanagement in urban areas. The MLA's actions align with these concerns and aim to restore equitable water distribution to all residents.

Following the operation, Majumdar met with local Panchayat officials to ensure the removal of all illegal connections and to discuss measures to prevent future violations. The MLA also reinforced that the PHE department would continue monitoring the situation to ensure that water supply reaches every household. Despite claims by some residents that they had followed the correct procedure for water connections, the illegal practice of multiple connections remains a major concern in the area.
