Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, a Member of Parliament, once again appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the multi-crore school recruitment case in West Bengal.
This marked the second round of questioning by the ED, following a previous session on September 13 that lasted nearly nine hours. Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, was also questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May this year regarding the same recruitment case. The ED's investigation is part of an ongoing probe into alleged illegal appointments in state-run schools for monetary gains.
Three TMC legislators, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee, have already been arrested in connection with the case by federal agencies and are currently in judicial custody. Despite the questioning, TMC leaders have asserted that the summons and investigations are politically motivated harassment, particularly as the Lok Sabha polls draw closer.
