TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticizes Lok Sabha Ethics Committee findings on 'Cash for Query' charges in social media post

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament, Mahua Moitra, facing 'Cash for Query' allegations, has taken to social media to express her discontent with the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee. The Committee, investigating the charges against Moitra, has recently submitted its report to Speaker Om Birla. According to sources, the report recommends severe punishment, citing serious misdemeanors on Moitra's part.

In a social media post on Friday, Moitra shared a cartoon with the caption "Maintain ethics unless you are on the other side," viewed as a direct criticism of the Ethics Committee. The cartoon depicted Moitra sitting next to an empty chair adorned with lotus carvings, the BJP's party symbol. While Moitra's nameplate read 'Opposition,' the vacant chair was labeled 'ruling.'

The Ethics Committee's draft report, submitted on the same day, proposes Moitra's expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha regarding the 'Cash for Query' case. The report, adopted with a 6:4 majority, claims Moitra's conduct as "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal." Moitra, who left the Committee meeting during cross-examination, accused members of asking her 'personal' questions. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey countered, asserting that Opposition MPs were guilty of asking improper questions. Meanwhile, Ethics Committee member Danish Ali stated that the truth would be revealed once the meeting minutes are made public.
