TMC MP stopped from entering Jogesh Chandra Law College

Kolkata’s Jogesh Chandra Law College witnessed protests on Tuesday as a section of students blocked South Kolkata MP Mala Roy from entering the campus, alleging that outsiders were being allowed inside. The incident occurred ahead of a governing board meeting, where Roy was set to preside. As she arrived, students staged a sit-in protest in front of her vehicle, demanding action against alleged unauthorized entry of non-students. The protest continued despite police presence, delaying the meeting and prompting intervention from authorities.

Roy, addressing the situation, stated that “every student is good, but a few miscreants are responsible for such incidents.” She assured that the police administration would identify those involved in the agitation. However, students leading the protest claimed that outsiders frequently enter the college premises, disrupting normal activities. One student remarked, “I don’t know who from outside is studying here. The management and principal must handle this.” Protesters also pointed out individuals allegedly moving around the college without authorization, demanding stricter enforcement of entry rules.

Despite tensions, the governing board meeting proceeded after delays, with college authorities stating that there was no disruption in official proceedings. Students, however, remain divided, as the college operates in both morning and day shifts, making it difficult to distinguish outsiders from regular students. Officials have assured a detailed investigation into the matter to address security concerns and restore order on campus.
