No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
An incident of an alleged sharp weapon attack on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member in the Kultali area of South 24 Parganas has triggered political tension in the region. The injured leader, identified as Ananta Sapui, a member of the Chuprijhara Gram Panchayat under the Kultali Assembly constituency, was first admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries and later shifted to Kolkata as his condition deteriorated.
According to reports, the attack took place on Wednesday when Sapui was on his way to his shop at Ghatiharania Bazaar. He was allegedly assaulted suddenly with sharp weapons by a group of miscreants, leaving him severely injured in several parts of his body. Hearing his cries, local residents rushed to the spot and took him to Jaynagar–Kultali Rural Hospital. However, as his condition worsened, he was later referred to Kolkata for advanced treatment.
The Trinamool Congress has accused miscreants linked to the BJP of carrying out the attack. Kultali MLA Ganesh Chandra Mondal alleged that Sapui was repeatedly attacked with sharp weapons, resulting in serious injuries. The incident has intensified political tensions in the area amid claims and counterclaims from both sides.
The BJP, however, rejected the allegation and presented a different version of the incident. Party leaders claimed that a dispute broke out during Dol-related celebrations after colour was allegedly smeared on the Trinamool panchayat member, which later escalated into a clash. The incident has created tension in the locality, and police have begun search operations to identify and arrest those involved.
