Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member Pintu Chakraborty, also known as Munna, was killed with a sharp weapon in a brutal attack in the Kanaipur area under Uttarpara police station limits of Hooghly district on Wednesday night. He was returning home from his gas agency office when unidentified assailants attacked him near the Kanaipur auto stand. Eyewitnesses stated that he was repeatedly struck with sharp weapons, and one of his hands was severed during the assault.
He was first taken to a local hospital in Kanaipur in a critical condition and was later shifted to PG Hospital in Kolkata. According to officials, Chakraborty died during treatment at the Kolkata hospital. The attack caused panic in the area, and police were informed shortly after the incident.
Police sources confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the attackers. The motive behind the killing has not been established yet. No arrests have been made as of now. An investigation is underway, and additional forces have been deployed to maintain order in the locality.
