TMC panchayat pradhan shot in Howrah

In a shocking late-night attack, miscreants on a bike shot five bullets into a Trinamool Congress panchayat pradhan in Howrah’s Bally area leaving him and his companion fighting for life. Debabrata Mondal, popularly known as Babu, the elected pradhan of Sapuipara-Basukati gram panchayat, was returning home late night after attending a ceremony. Debabrata was in a bike with friend Anupam Rana when two goons appears in a bike near Buro-Shibtala in Bally Nischinda and fired at point-blank range. Two men on a motorbike approached Debabrata first and shot him in the waist and shoulder, when Anupam tried to stop them, both shot him too and quickly fled. Debabrata along with Anupam both collapsed in a pool of blood as the gunmen sped away.

Local residents rushed the bleeding victims first to Belur State General Hospital and then later shifted them to a private hospital in Howrah. As their conditions worsened late night, doctors referred to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata where both are currently undergoing treatment in a critical situation. Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathi reached the spot with a heavy force and launched a manhunt. CCTV footages is being scanned and as per reports five empty cartridges have been recovered.

Senior TMC leaders including Howrah Uttar MLA Goutam Chowdhury and Domjur MLA Kalyan Ghosh visited the hospital and demanded immediate arrests. Political situations stirs up as TMC youth leader Kailash Mishra openly blames BJP for the attack, while the party’s close circles pointed fingers at a local criminal named Basu. As per Howrah City Police, the motive is still unclear—old rivalry, land disputes, or political enmity are all under the lens. The brazen shooting in a busy area has spread fear among local TMC workers and local residents, who now worry about more violence ahead of upcoming assembly polls next year.
