Women-run Durga Puja committees organized a protest march in response to an alleged derogatory remark against Bengali speakers. The rally aimed to assert respect for the Bengali language and identity and was attended by a large number of women participants.
The march was led by state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, who said, “Bengali language and Bengali identity will not be insulted under any circumstances.” Participants marched from Golpark and advanced through city streets while dancing to the tune of the ektara and carrying banners emphasizing pride in Bengali culture.
The protest concluded at Rash Behari, where balloons were released as a symbolic gesture of their demonstration. The platform of women-led Durga Puja committees reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the community’s dignity and ensuring respect for linguistic and cultural heritage.
