Trinamool Congress (TMC) suspended two of its senior leaders, Santanu Sen and Arabul Islam, on Friday for alleged violations of party discipline. The ruling party reportedly acted against the duo for engaging in anti-party activities.
The announcement of their suspension came as a surprise to many in the political circles on Friday afternoon. According to party insiders, both leaders were found to have breached disciplinary norms, prompting the leadership to take this strict step.
Santanu Sen, a prominent medical leader in the party, faced the axe as the TMC leadership reportedly held him accountable for activities deemed detrimental to the party’s image.
For Arabul Islam, this marks the second instance of suspension. Previously suspended for six years, Arabul’s earlier punishment was later withdrawn, and he was reinstated in the party. Despite his chequered history, Arabul managed to win the last panchayat elections and secured a position in the panchayat samiti. However, the latest allegations of misconduct have resulted in another suspension.
The TMC has been focusing on maintaining strict organizational discipline, especially ahead of crucial elections. Observers see this move as part of the party’s strategy to strengthen its internal structure by dealing firmly with dissent or indiscipline.
