Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that the Trinamool Congress would contest vigorously at every polling station and predicted that the party would secure more than 226 seats in the 2026 elections. She launched a strong political attack ahead of the upcoming elections, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of attempting to control the state’s administration and disrupt the electoral process. Addressing party workers, she alleged that the situation in West Bengal resembled a “Super Emergency,” claiming that widespread transfers of officials were being carried out in a politically motivated manner.
Banerjee questioned the role of the Election Commission of India, saying it was “playing a game of billiards” by transferring officers indiscriminately. She argued that both Bengali and non-Bengali officials had been removed from their posts just before Eid, raising concerns that such actions could create tensions in the state. According to her, if necessary, the Election Commission should step into the campaign arena itself and conduct meetings openly.
The chief minister also alleged that officers loyal to the BJP were being deployed with the intention of influencing the election environment. She claimed people were being brought into the state from Haryana and warned of a larger conspiracy to send state officials on central deputation. Banerjee further stated that if any crisis or untoward incident occurs in the state, the responsibility would lie with the BJP.
Confident about her party’s prospects, Banerjee asserted that despite the BJP controlling administrative power, her party had the “manpower” and support of the people. She also said the BJP should fight politically and peacefully rather than attempting to influence the system.
