Tension gripped Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas after a worker of the All India Trinamool Congress was allegedly assaulted and shot following the conclusion of polling in the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. The incident occurred in Ward No. 21 of the Bhatpara Municipality area late on polling day, raising fresh concerns over post-election violence.
According to reports, the injured worker, identified as Tapas Das, was standing near his booth after voting ended when an argument reportedly broke out between him and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The situation allegedly escalated into violence, with claims that he was first assaulted and then shot during the altercation. He was initially taken to a local hospital before being shifted to another medical facility as his condition deteriorated.
While polling in the area had passed without any major incidents such as explosions or firing, unrest reportedly surfaced immediately after voting concluded. The allegations have intensified political tensions in the region, with the matter expected to be investigated further as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
