Full state honors for Ratan Tata, one day mourning announced in Maharashtra
In a recent development, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, known for his confrontations with the DMK government, concluded his customary address to the House within minutes, citing disagreement with the government over the content of the address. Governor Ravi specifically criticized the DMK regime for what he perceived as a lack of respect for the national anthem.
Despite repeated requests and advice to play the national anthem at the beginning and end of the address, the Governor claimed that his suggestions were ignored. Expressing disagreement with numerous messages in the address on both factual and moral grounds, Ravi asserted that continuing to address aspects he disagrees with would constitute a "Constitutional travesty."
The House, convened on February 12 by the Tamil Nadu government for the customary Governor's Address to the Assembly, witnessed the Governor concluding his speech after conveying his disagreement with the government. The abrupt conclusion of the address adds to the series of instances where Governors have taken a stand during such ceremonies, with Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan also recently abbreviating his customary address.
