Toll collection stopped at Fulbari plaza near Siliguri after BJP victory, vehicles pass free

In a significant development following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, toll collection has reportedly been halted at the Fulbari toll plaza near Siliguri. The plaza, which falls under the Siliguri–Jalpaiguri Development Authority, witnessed an unusual scene on Tuesday as vehicles were allowed to pass without paying any toll charges.

The toll plaza is a key transit point for vehicles travelling towards different states as well as routes leading close to the Bangladesh border. Until recently, vehicles were required to pay toll charges that reportedly went up to around ₹400 per trip. The sudden halt in collection has led to increased movement and relief among transport operators using the route.

Truck drivers and vehicle owners expressed satisfaction over the development, stating that the removal of toll charges has reduced operational costs. The move is being seen as an early sign of administrative changes on the ground following the political shift in the state.
