Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Continuous rainfall due to a low-pressure system has caused severe waterlogging in multiple areas of South 24 Parganas' Sonarpur region. Garia’s Bali area is among the worst affected, where rainwater has risen to knee level on roads, and water has entered several houses. Rajpur, Subhashgram, Sonarpur, Bodal, and Mahamatla are also experiencing stagnant water across residential and commercial zones, affecting normal movement and access.
According to municipal authorities, water pumps have been installed in different locations to drain the accumulated rainwater. However, they have stated that the process will take time. Local residents report that rainwater remains inside many houses, and daily routines have been hampered. Students, office-goers, and elderly citizens are facing difficulties in commuting due to waterlogged roads and poor visibility in some areas.
Residents have alleged that timely repairs of drainage lines and maintenance of the water disposal system were not carried out, which contributed to the current condition. They say that similar situations occur every year during the monsoon. The municipality has maintained that the situation is being monitored continuously and pumping operations are ongoing to reduce water levels.
