The body of a young tourist who tragically drowned while bathing in the sea at Tajpur has been recovered from Mandarmani, casting a somber shadow over the popular coastal destinations. The deceased has been identified as Subodh Biswas, 32, a resident of New Barrackpur.
Subodh Biswas had reportedly traveled to Tajpur on Saturday to visit friends. In the afternoon, he ventured into the sea with his companions for a swim, a common activity for tourists visiting the area. Unfortunately, he was tragically caught by the currents and drowned. The incident was immediately reported to the local police station, triggering a search operation, but his whereabouts remained unknown until Sunday morning.
Around 9:30 AM on Sunday, a body was spotted floating in the sea near Mandarmani beach, several kilometers from Tajpur. Upon receiving the information, police from the Mandarmani coastal police station promptly responded and recovered the body. Through their investigation, the police confirmed that the recovered body was indeed that of Subodh Biswas, the tourist who had gone missing and was presumed drowned in Tajpur the previous day.
The body of Subodh Biswas has since been sent to Kanthi Subdistrict Hospital for a post-mortem examination. This procedure will help ascertain the exact cause of death and provide further details for the ongoing police investigation. The incident has deeply saddened his family and friends, who were hoping for a different outcome.
Administrative officials have expressed their dismay over the rising number of accidents. They note that since the construction of Jagannath Dham in Digha, there has been a significant increase in tourist footfall across Digha, Tajpur, Mandarmani, and Shankarpur. While this surge in tourism is economically beneficial, it has inadvertently led to more sea bathing incidents.
